Tragic: HS Valedictorian, Football Star Murdered in His Own Home

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Your Black World.

Young Nicholas Jackson was a star that shone like a bright star and its future. Students 15 years of age at Hopewell Christian Academy was both a great athlete and former high school valedictorian. His bright light suddenly went out this week by a group of men who know nothing of the value of human life.

Jackson was in the basement to play Playstation, when the men broke into his home.

"They just broke and went straight to his room," said the sister of 17 years of Jackson, Nikia,.

That was when Nicholas was killed along with his sister on the phone calling 911. He tried to perform CPR on his brother, but died en route to hospital. Norcross Police Chief Warren Summers said he was not sure why the crime.

"It seemed so absurd," said Nikia Jackson. "I do not know why they did it."

The officers were given a description of the van by Nikia and men were arrested a few blocks away.

"A couple of individuals in the van apparently tried to run. They were arrested, along with others in the van," said Summers

Six men between the ages of 19 and 46 were arrested by police. All men will be charged with felony murder and robbery charges.
Jackson's grandmother, Sherrie Reid, said his grandson had a huge amount of possibilities."It's a football player from Norcross High School, and he was thinking of going to Alabama State College," said Reid.
Principal Dr. Burrell Pope spoke of the young with very high regard.
"He was a very intelligent young lover relaxed and I knew I had a bright future ahead of him," said the Pope. "It's a great loss to the community because it impacted so many lives."
Tragedies like this a hole right in his heart. While some people are quick to criticize black men who make bad decisions, do not tell stories are those in which "good apples" are ruined by the bad. It is not enough for black men to see what they do, but must also deal with the challenge of life or death to interact with men who are doing everything wrong in themselves. This could include being robbed on their way to school, get shot by a woman jealous ex-boyfriend, or being stabbed outside a nightclub after being accosted by a thug with an attitude.
Our community must continue to be proactive to avoid repetition of such tragedy. Maybe start with better parenting, more community support, better education systems and more resources devoted to afterschool programs. If these men had received love, support and guidance at an early age, never have become ruthless murderers are today. Like the burnt biscuits from the oven, it takes a lifetime of pain and abuse of creating a homicidal maniac.
Incidents like this serve to clarify root called to reflect intelligently on the social, family and musical shape what our men and boys become (yes, reciting rap lyrics encouraging you to shoot other men of Blacks do not affect your subconscious). It is also up to us to decide whether Nicholas died in vain. May he rest in peace.
